MAURICE-BELAY'S SEASON OVER

Girondins de Bordeaux's Nicolas Maurice-Belay has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and will be out of action for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder, who has scored one goal in 18 appearances so far this season, had been suffering from recurrent knee problems and the decision was made to undergo arthroscopic surgery to clean up the cartilage in his right knee, leaving him with no chance of taking any further part in Les Girondins' season.

The news was announced on Thursday by Bordeaux boss Willy Sagnol, who has had to deal with several key injuries of late - 'keeper Cédric Carrasso (season-ending knee injury) and Jaroslav Plasil (six weeks with a sprained knee) - but who also has some players returning to action as Saturday's Week 28 Ligue 1 trip to face Stade Reims looms.

Ins and outs

"Seeing some players coming back is great news," said Sagnol, whose side will be looking for just a second win in six matches in February, in his press conference. "(Diego) Contento and (André Biyogo) Poko are back, and that should also soon be the case for Pablo. (Cheick) Diabaté has a groin complaint. We'll see on Friday whether he can take the field against Reims."

A win on Saturday would be a step in the right direction through the ultra-congested top half of the table and could even see Bordeaux take fifth place should other results go their way.
