Frosinone 0 - 1 Inter

Mauro Icardi gave Inter a precious 1-0 victory at the Matusa, but 10-man Frosinone were so unlucky to hit the woodwork three times.

Relegation-threatened Frosinone had Federico Dionisi suspended, Paolo Sammarco and Aleksandar Tonev injured, needing a boost after their 4-0 defeat at Genoa. Following a shock 2-1 home loss to Torino, Roberto Mancini gave Stevan Jovetic and Felipe Melo rare starts, while Joao Miranda and Yuto Nagatomo sat out bans.

The Nerazzurri were without an away victory since January 6, scraping three points from six visits.

A deflected Alex Telles low cross squirmed inches wide of the far post and Jonathan Biabiany turned over under pressure after a Jovetic through ball.

Nicola Leali spilled an Ivan Perisic cross-shot from six yards, but got it under control before Jovetic could tap in. Frosinone had their first chance on 27 minutes with an Alessandro Frara low volley whistling just wide.

Biabiany’s scuffed angled drive transformed into an accidental assist for Perisic, who came sliding in at the back post to turn wide.

Oliver Kragl’s solo effort was straight at Samir Handanovic and Jeison Murillo’s header was over from a free kick.

Frosinone thought they had gone in front on 55 minutes, but Leonardo Blanchard’s deflected header was just wide at the near post from a set play.

Jovetic scuffed a weak attempt at Leali, but Frosinone were extremely unlucky on 64 minutes when Luca Paganini’s diving header on a Kragl cross from the left thumped the base of the upright and rebounded across the face of goal.

Perisic hit a volley well wide, but Frosinone were increasingly dangerous and rattled the woodwork for the second time with a Daniel Pavlovic free kick landing on the crossbar.

However, it was Inter who broke the deadlock with a sensational Icardi looping header into the far top corner from Perisic’s cross. The Argentine marked his 100th competitive appearance in a Nerazzurri jersey with his 50th goal.

Jovetic curled just over the bar and Frosinone’s heads dropped further when Leonardo Blanchard received a second yellow card.

The Canarini could not believe their terrible misfortune when hitting the frame of the goal for the third time in this match, as Ciofani’s angled drive took a slight deflection to bounce off the base of the far post.
