Jeremy Menez assures “I feel good” at Milan, and aims to win the Coppa Italia.
The French forward has missed most of this season with a back injury, but is fit for the season run-in.
“I’ve been back for a month of two months after almost 10 months out,” Menez explained to RMC Sport.
“It takes a bit of time to get in shape, so I’m training every day. In terms of pain, I haven’t felt any so I’m happy.
“After my last match in April or May of last year I felt pain in my back. I left it two or three weeks to see if it would pass.
“Then I saw a surgeon who said it was a hernia and I’d have to have an operation for the second time. Six weeks after the operation it was discovered that I had an infection, and the treatment lost me another two months.
“My goals for the end of the season? I have more collective goals. We’re in the final of the Coppa Italia [against Juventus]. It would be nice to win, because that’s what the club expects.
“It would be a nice reward, and it’d allow us to qualify for the Europa League. On a personal level, I want to play as many matches as possible.
“I feel good here. It’s been difficult this year with the injury I experienced. I couldn’t help the team, I just thought about getting better and returning.
“Then we’ll see what happens.”
Menez was then asked if Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema should go to Euro 2016, as he has a court case hanging over him.
“I think he absolutely should be at the Euros. Of course. How could it not help the Coach to play in a competition like this with the best current French player?
“It’s only in France we go on about ethics, in other countries it's not like that. The best players are called, they play, they win for their team and after everyone forgets.
“Right now no-one knows if he did anything or not, it’s useless to judge him. It would be a shame if the best French player wasn’t there.”
The former Paris Saint-Germain player also admitted that he still harbours hope of playing for his country again.
“It will be difficult,” Menez admitted.
“I’ll always fight to come back though, without it being an obsession. I watch them, they play really well, they’re a good team.
“If one day I could come back, I’d be the happiest guy in the world.”
