Lacazette netted a double in the 3-0 win over Les Girondins at Parc OL on Wednesday evening, his first goals since scoring in the win over Troyes in Week 20. The Bordeaux maximum haul was only OL's second in 11 Ligue 1 matches and gave last season's runners-up a much-needed fillip, as well as lifting them into the top half of the table.
Lacazette, last season's top scorer in Ligue 1 with 27 goals, now has nine goals this campaign. The French international forward said: "Hard work pays off. I feel good and all I was lacking was the goals. I know I'm judged on that. I played well and I scored, so that's good. I can't score 30 goals every season. I know I'm scoring less. I've been out of luck and not precise enough in my finishing. I know I've got the confidence of the coaching staff and my team-mates."
Promoted Angers are still in the upper echelons of the standings, despite falling 2-1 at Reims on Wednesday, a result which lifted the Champagne club out of the relegation zone. In their last home game Angers demolished Monaco 3-0 and Lacazette expects a tough test.
He said: "Angers is an important game for the rest of the season. We owe it to ourselves to win over there and start a run off. It's the right moment to do that. It's down to us to be ready for it. We mustn't get carried away. We're happy and relieved at having beaten Bordeaux. It's a good thing. We knew we had to ignore what was being said about us."
Disappointed
Coach Bruno Genesio has won two of his five matches in charge since succeeding Hubert Fournier. Genesio said: "People wrote us off a bit fast. The result proves we've got character in our side. We'll savour this win and then project forward to the difficult game against Angers. We've fallen so far behind that every game is important."Angers fell at Reims despite having taken the lead through Arnold Bouka Moutou. Coach Stéphane Moulin had said his team had approached perfection in the win over Monaco, and was understandably disappointed at their failure to build on that at the Ligue 1 strugglers.
Moulin said: "I'm disappointed we weren't able to build on our great match of the previous Saturday. I knew things would be different. When you forget about the fundamentals you can be undone by the enthusiasm of your opponents. It appears we had a legitimate goal disallowed. We weren't consistent and what we managed to do to Monaco, Reims managed to do to us."
Angers have won only four of their last 14 Ligue 1 outings but have impressed everybody this season, nobody more so than Cheikh N'Doye, their top scorer with seven goals and a revelation in midfield in his first top-flight season as he approaches the age of 30. With the transfer window having closed, Moulin will be able to rely on the powerfully built Senegalese international until the end of the season at least.
